During the third week of May, the much awaited Swamped! The Musical was presented by our second grade students and directed by our theater teacher, Ms. Kammermeyer, and our music teacher, Mr. Albertson. Our children worked very hard on the music, choreography, script, lyrics and all the “ingredients” that make up a performance. This was truly be a Broadway production.
Swamped! is a musical about friendship, tolerance and change. Published by Hal Leonard and composed by John Jacobson and John Higgins, the swamp is all a-buzz with party preparations galore! Of course, the turtles are running late and Bully the Frog is being his typical self – a bully. The frogs have learned a new dance they want to share. The tadpoles are growing appendages (yikes!) and the dragonfly larvae need encouragement to spread their wings and fly. Lessons of friendship, tolerance, courage to face the future, and more, abound!
We were honored to have our District 30 Superintendent, Dr. Philip A. Composto, attend the first performance of Swamped! The Musical. He was extremely impressed by our children’s singing, acting and dancing. Dr. Composto extended warm congratulations to our teachers, Ms. Kammermeyer, theater teacher, and Mr. Albertson, music teacher, for their dedication, innovative creativity and enthusiasm toward our students.
